spring clay arts at el mercadito de south park

“Like a lump of clay in the hands of the creator, we are forever being molded by life’s experiences”

-Feyisara Aladese

So full of happiness and gratitude to bring clay art making opportunities free to the neighborhood, at the Winter Market Mercaditos Saturdays 2/5, 3/5, and 4/2 at 836 S. Kenyon St, at the Duwamish River. In the traditions of ceramics that reach back through thousands of years and across cultures in different ways, we remember. In putting our hands in clay, in the earth, and shaping it, we remember. As one person said while making a pot, “I remember my abuela doing this, a long time ago, in Guatemala, we did it together.” We remember also that we are on the ancestral and present lands and waters of the Duwamish people, our neighbors.

Thanks to Amaranta Ibarra Sandys for being a wonderful teaching artist to kids and adults, in English and in Spanish!
