Purpose of the event : Light in the Darkness is part of a four series events aimed to make arts more accessible to the South Park Community. The event is put together by the South Park Arts & Culture Collective, a resident-led group seeking to build spaces of belonging for our neighbors through the arts.
The event celebrates hope in the midst of darkness showcasing performance and visual artists who represent our community, encouraging unity and connection amongst attendees. We hope you keep this in mind as you craft your art for the show.
The format of the event is multi-media. There will be a series of musicians performing, as well as spoken word artists and live painters. The audience will also be engaged in art projects and an open mic at the end. We hope to cross boundaries by encouraging artists to play on each others’ sets (i.e. spoken-word becomes a rap, horn section of band A, participates in song of band B, and so on). There will be song, and there will be food and drink at the bar.
